Puri is the most popular seaside town of Eastern India.  It is best known for the Jagannath Temple dating back to 12th century, dedicated to Lord Vishnu. This is one of the tallest and largest temples in the region.  The Jagannath temple makes Puri one of the four 'Dhams' which should be visited by every devoted Hindu at least once in a lifetime. The temple kitchen feeds more than 10,000 people everyday.

The great Jagannath festival is the Rath Yatra in June-July, marking the God's annual visit from his domain to his birthplace. Lakhs of people join the procession to take up the ropes of His chariot and draw it through the streets of Puri to the Gundicha courtyard.

However that is not all to this town. It has picturesque beaches visited by tourists from all over the world. Sitting on the beach, admiring the golden sands and the beautiful sea, you can watch the local fishermen at work and the pilgrims taking a holy dip in the seas, for hours on end.

Puri in Odisha has a lot of luxe hotels and resorts catering to tourists from all over the world. Although Puri has a good climate all through the year, the best time to visit is the pre-winter and winter months of October to February when the weather is comfortably cool and the sea breeze is enjoyable.
